ECAM Stars Orchestra perform at Music For Youth Semi-Finals Competition

The Every Child a Musician Stars Orchestra is very excited to have been invited to perform at the Music For Youth National Semi-Finals competition in Birmingham.

Our youth symphony orchestra features 45 young musicians from 23 schools across Newham.  In January 2018 we were selected for the Regional Finals and our entry was judged against music services and music schools from across London and the South-East.

Successful selection to the Regional Finals was exciting and our performance pieces clearly impressed the Music For Youth panel. The Orchestra played ‘Also Sprach Zarathustra’ by Richard Strauss, ‘Liberty Bell’ by John Phillip Sousa and ‘Blunderbuss Battles’ by Ralph Ford.

The judges complemented our upper string section on their “melodic playing” and the brass on their “…control of dynamics and articulation”.

Further success has been achieved by our orchestra’s young musicians who were delighted to perform in the national semi-finals.

We travelled to Birmingham on Wednesday 4th July 2018 for our finals performance and we know that the good wishes of Newham’s schools and pupils travelled with us. We eagerly await the final results of the competition which will be released in September 2018 - wish us luck!

The upper string section are to be commended on their “melodic playing” and the brass on their “…control of dynamics and articulation”.
